“Despesques” are a secondary activity of salt exploitation. It consists mainly of catching the fish that get trapped in the intricacies where seawater evaporates to obtain salt. Before spring, the fish fry are allowed to enter. It is an artisanal practice that is predominantly carried out in the province of Cádiz. With this work, Laura León was awarded the unique prize in the field of photojournalism at the Andalusian National Journalism Awards, making her the first woman to receive it in the 30 years of its existence.
